Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells which are designed to cover the front surface of the front teeth. They can improve the color, shape and position of teeth when we have
discoloration, teeth misalignment, fractured teeth, irregularly shaped teeth, large gaps between teeth or teeth which are slightly uneven.
Veneers are an excellent option which offers a natural and healthy look. Because they are very thin and they are held in place by a special strong bonding material, the tooth requires a short preparation.
Before placement, we remove a very small quantity of enamel from the surface of one or more front teeth, depending on the extent of the restoration we have chosen. This quantity is equal to the thickness of the veneer to be placed, i.e. we create the space which will then be covered by the veneer. For this procedure we may administer local anesthesia in order to eliminate any possibility of pain, but this is often not necessary. Once we have completed the preparation, we take models of the teeth and the laboratory constructs the veneers based on these.
Restoration with the use of veneers is usually completed in two sessions. During the first session, we prepare the tooth and choose the right color, while in the second session we place the veneers using a special material, after we have performed the necessary tests to ensure perfect fit.
Composite veneers are a method we can use as an alternative to porcelain veneers. They correct the same flaws as porcelain veneers, but they may not be the best choice if these issues are extensive (large fractures, large spaces between teeth, very small teeth that we want to look larger, etc.).
Composite veneers require little or no preparation of the tooth and their greatest advantage is that the procedure can be completed in one single session, since they do not need to be constructed at the odontotechnic laboratory. Composite resin is the familiar white material used also in fillings. We apply it directly on the surface of one or more of the front teeth, in layers. Gradually, we “build” the restoration, so that it resembles the structure of the natural
tooth, and we correct its shape and size. We harden and stabilize each layer we apply with dental curing light. Resin allows us to mimic the color depth and the transparency of the natural tooth, thus offering a very good aesthetic result.
Composite veneers are a good and minimally invasive restoration which is completed faster than porcelain veneers, does not require models of the teeth and can be modified in the future if any issues arise. However, they are less resistant to the color pigments in food and lose their color more quickly, while they are also less durable in general.
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular aesthetic dental procedures, because it can
significantly improve the color of teeth and it removes stains and discoloration. A brighter
smile is as easy as a visit to the dentist.
Tooth discoloration is caused by a number of factors, such as smoking, chronic
accumulation of color pigments from food, injuries, while some people have naturally darker teeth. With teeth whitening we remove not only external discoloration, but also deep internal “stains”, which leads to a brighter, more beautiful smile.
The procedure can be performed either at the office or at home following our instructions or with a combination of both. At the office, whitening is performed by applying a special whitening gel on the teeth surface, after first covering the gums to protect them. The gel’s action is reinforced and accelerated by a special frequency light. Of course, if there are periodontal issues or dental caries, these must be treated first and only then do we proceed to whitening. The procedure is painless, totally safe and offers very good results. In order to retain this result, we can repeat the whitening procedure from time to time.
Teeth whitening at home is performed with special trays which will be constructed especially
for you, based on the models of your teeth which we will make at the office. This way, we
can ensure perfect fit on the teeth and better efficiency. You add the whitening material we
have provided you in the tray and you keep it on for a few hours every day. Of course, we
will also provide all of the necessary instructions in order for the procedure to be totally safe
and for you to obtain the best results.
